EAT LOCAL
-
Fresh is Best
Local produce is picked at the peak of ripeness since it does not need to be shipped or distributed to your local retail store. When shopping at your local Farmers Market produce has been picked within 24 hours of your purchase.
-
Nutrient dense
Locally grown food has a shorter time between harvest and your table. Because your local farmers do not need to ship their food long distances they can harvest when when the fruits and veggies are fully and naturally ripe. Many of the foods nutrients are formed as the food ripens but as soon as as it’s picked, it’s sugars begin to convert to starch, the plant cells shrink and the nutrients diminish. So the sooner to your table the more benefit to you!
-
local support
When you buy from your local farmers, your money circulates within the local economy. When you support local businesses, owners and employees are more likely to cycle their incomes back into local stores and institutions. Shop local!
-
build connections
Know your farmer! Building relationships with those who grow your food is a great way to learn about their farming practices and how your food is grown. All of our produce is grown organically with all natural products and we are able to communicate that when we have direct interactions with our customers. We believe it is super important in this day and age to know where your food comes from and to have local sources that are immune to supply chain issues.
-
earth friendly
Mass produced food that has to travel long distances to your grocery store requires vast amounts of energy and fuel consumption. Buying local goods that have been grown in your own community cuts down on the “food miles” traveled and can reduce our impact to the planet. Soil conservation is also key. Smaller, no-till farming decreases the amount of erosion and keeps the biodiversity in the soil
